Devanahalli Fort is located north of Bangalore in Devanahalli,Karnataka state, India.Malla Byre Gowda of Awathi,a vassal of the Vijayanagara Empire,built a mud fort at Devanadoddy in 1501.Hyder Ali rebuilt the fort in the late 18th century, resulting in the present structure.It was built by Malabari Gowda in 1501 and passed down through his descendants until the middle of the eighteenth century.
The then Dalvai Nagarajaiah of Mysore attacked and captured the fort in 1749. Devanahalli was a part of the Gangavadi and was later ruled by the Rashtrakutas, Nolumbus,Pallavas,Cholas, Hoysalas and Vijayanagara rulers. Malla Baire built the first mud fort at Devanadodi in 1501 AD with the consent of Devaraya,which was the successor of Devanahalli during the reign of Vijayanagara.was the previous name.In 1747 AD, the fort was captured by the Wodeyars of Mysore under the command of Nanja Raja. It was conquered by the Marathas several times before it came under the control of Hyder Ali and Tipu Sultan.
